Friends of the River Wye Privacy Policy

What personal data we hold and how we use it  

We collect personal data for two groups of people: Supporters and Citizen Scientists.

Group: Supporters - people who have subscribed to receive updates about our work (e.g. news and events)

What data do we hold: Name, email, postcode

How do we use it: To send email updates. Postcode may be used to target communications to people in a specific area. 

Group: Citizen Scientists - people who monitor the quality of the water in the Wye and its tributaries.

What data do we hold: Name, email, address, telephone number, training attended*

How do we use it: To communicate about citizen science work. To send monitoring equipment and supplies. To alert to emergency situations

*We many collect some additional data where needed to keep citizen scientists safe and their information secure. For example, we may collect sensitive personal data if a citizen scientist has a particular vulnerability. This information will be retained for legal reasons, for safeguarding purposes and to protect us (including in the event of an insurance or legal claim).

Sharing data

Personal data for citizen scientists is shared with Radnorshire Wildlife Trust (RWT), who provide administrative support to FOUW, and may also be shared with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (HWT) who, along with RWT, provide insurance cover for FOUW citizen scientists (anyone who is a trained FOUW citizen scientist also signs up to be a volunteer for either RWT or HWT).

Information storage and retention

We will only use and store information for as long as it required for the purposes it was collected for. We continually review what information we hold and delete what is no longer required.

FOUW has no responsibility for the content of any external websites which may be accessed through links located here on our site or links within documents downloaded from our site; these links are provided purely as a service to our visitors.

As you go through checkout, this site may auto-complete your shipping and billing address by sharing what you type with the Google Places API and returning suggestions to you to improve your checkout experience.
